In April 1944, Benzlers & Co. was founded. This also created the basis for the modern Benzlers. Initially, Benzlers & Co was a trading company that brought products such as chain drives & V-belt drives etc to the market. The business expanded rapidly and branches were opened in several Swedish cities as early as the first year.
At the end of the 1950s, the first in-house gearbox production began. Salagævell was born, and with that success foreign markets also opened up for Benzlers. Exports to several European countries were soon established.
Development continued through the 1960s when the company consolidated with several new product series. Production of Benzler's screwjacks started during this decade at Benzler's headquarters in Helsingborg.
The takeover of ASEA's production for small and medium-sized gear units would essentially characterise the 80s. This acquisition was a significant turning point for Benzlers, who could now count themselves among the leading European manufacturers and thus took the position as the leading Nordic brand in mechanical gears, geared motors and industrial gears.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, Benzler's growth continued and the company was now represented in 14 countries. During these decades, Benzlers, along with David Brown and Cone Drive, were taken over by the investment company Textron. These three businesses together formed one of the largest players in the manufacturing of mechanical transmissions such as gears, geared motors and industrial gears.
In 2010 Benzlers was bought by Elecon Engineering Co. Ltd, Asia's largest producer of industrial gears. Benzlers and UK-based Radicon today make up Elecon's European industrial group.
